Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn native son Malik Rashad, is the definition of a modern day renaissance man. With music as his foundation, he continues to stretch beyond limits as an actor, voice over artist, songwriter and entrepreneur. Malik possesses a genre bending style fused between hip-hop, soul and a bunch of other things and has performed at locations all over NYC and the surrounding areas including The Knitting Factory, The Bowery Electric, The Paper Box, The Richmond International Film Festival and Brooklyn’s famous International Arts Festival just to name a few. He has been able to grace the stage with greats such as KRS-ONE, CL Smooth and The Last Poets and garner praise from legends like producer/hitmaker Easy Mo Bee who proclaimed Malik to be “everything hip-hop needs right now” and world renowned battle rapper Loaded Lux exclaiming “Malik Rashad…mean!! pay close attention to this brother.”
A gifted poet and storyteller, Malik Rashad believes in the words of the late great Nina Simone “An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.” Simply put, Malik Rashad makes real music for real people and will tirelessly continue in his pursuit of becoming a musical great. Previous works have landed him great reviews on sites like OkayPlayer, Digiwaxx and video airplay on networks such as BET, MTV, MTV2 and others. His songs have also been featured on soundtracks for films in the Sundance, Big Apple and BAM film festivals and most recently have landed him a feature opportunity on the amazingly popular Black & Sexy TV network, licensing songs for the network's hit show Chef Julian.
Once characterized as “A low timbre, gruff sound that could be best described as what pavement would sound like if it had a voice. Or what the vocal tone of a graffiti tagged bodega would be.” ,his standout vocal tone and distinct voice has kept him busy on other fronts as well, doing voice over work for Budweiser, Vevo, Nissan, and Lipton Brisk Iced Tea among other major brands.
Ever the artist Malik's talents extend far beyond the booth. He stars in the Emmy nominated hit digital series "Tough Love" as Jason, with also having numerous other theater, feature film, and short film roles under his belt. Spawned by his phrase Stay Fly Remain Grounded his latest venture is into the fashion world. Initially a t-shirt idea sold as merchandise at shows the overwhelming response and demand has now turned into a full out apparel brand. It has been a busy year for Malik and with his newly formed company God’s Image Ent. the best is yet to come!
